I started my dance training at age three at the Denise Lester Dance Academy. The places I've seen, the people I have met and what I have accomplished, were all part of my dreams growing up. Now, my dreams are coming to life. Like most dancers, I started with recitals and competitions. I also took part in annual dance exams, which, like school, grades your progress. By the time I was sixteen years old I had completed all my exams to receive my teaching certificate in Ballet, Modern and Stage (tap). My first dance job that took me away from home was when I was eighteen years old. I worked in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico at a resort dancing and being part of the entertainment team. This job was the biggest shock of my life. There was no one to hold my hand and make decisions for me. I learned almost everything in Spanish, since I was the only one who didn't speak Spanish fluently; English was hardly ever spoken between employees. I even learned all the dancing for the shows in Spanish. Thank God dancing is visual. This all was definitely an eye opener for me. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but, I learned to take care of myself, stand up for myself and most importantly, it gave me the confidence to know that I could do anything I wanted to do and didn't need anyone to hold my hand.
Within the next six months I moved onto bigger and better things. I danced for the Toronto Raptors Dance Pak in their 2001-2002 season, and was also part of the movie "The Tuxedo" starring Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love Hewitt. In March 2002, I signed my first cruise ship contract with Celebrity Cruises on their "Millennium Ship". We sailed throughout the Caribbean performing 3 full-length production shows, twice nightly. After a seven-month contract I was home only for a short while before I did this all again. This time to the Panama Canal, Hawaii and Alaska on the sister ship "Infinity". On this ship we performed four production shows, which only meant more dancing and more traveling. From recitals to competitions, fundraisers, resorts, fashion shows, movies dance teams and cruise ships, dancing has literally taken me all over the world. Performing gives me the biggest rush and puts the biggest smile on my face. I've met the most amazing and talented people. Denise, Suzie, Wendy, Cindy and Tonya have all taught me so much - not just about dancing but about life as well. I am so grateful for everything and really do believe anything can happen if you only believe in yourself. I cherish it all and cannot wait to see what dancing brings me next.
